Friends of Moosehorn
Will Celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week
To celebrate National Wildlife Refuge week, Oct. 8th-14th, ,
Friends of Moosehorn will be at the Moosehorn’s Fall Colors Auto Tour
offering free mulled cider and refreshments to visitors for their
enjoyment as they travel the route on Saturday, Oct.
14th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The Auto Tour has been open during daylight hours from Sept. 23rd and
will remain open through Sunday, October 15, 2006. The Auto Tour is a
4.5 mile one-way route beginning at the Howard Lake Road (off of
Charlotte Rd., Baring) The tour is a wonderful opportunity to take in
the splendor of fall colors and to see a part of the refuge normally not
seen by automobile. Much of the area has been managed to provide a wide
variety of forest habitat. Visitors can pickup an explanatory pamphlet
at the start or by stopping in the Headquarters Building.
Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge has over 50 miles of gravel roads
like the ones in the Auto Tour. With the exception of the tour route,
all roads are closed to vehicle traffic. However, they are open to
hiking or mountain biking. A complete trail map is available in the
information kiosk or in the Headquarters office.
The Friends of the Moosehorn is a non-profit organization committed
to the programs and activities of Moosehorn NWR to help accomplish its
goals and objectives for the enhancement of wildlife populations and
their habitats. The regular monthly meetings are held every first
Wednesday of the month at the Headquarters Building, 6:00 p.m.
Membership is just $10.00. Visit our website: www.friendsofmoosehorn.org
